Brief Opportunities

Posted by K. S. Dearsley on Sunday, July 29, 2018,
There isn't much time left before the Smashwords Summer-Winter sale ends. Wait until Wednesday to make your choice and you'll be too late. No time for novels? There are plenty of books of short stories to download either at big discounts or completely free, as well.
Take Artists and Liars, for instance. It's a collection of short stories, flash fiction and poetry–11 works in all–linked by an art theme. Do you know the difference between a collector and a connoisseur? What goes through ...

Buses and Publication

Posted by K. S. Dearsley on Monday, July 4, 2016, In : Coming Soon
What are the similarities between them? Sometimes you can go ages without one and then several arrive at once. I seem to have hit a plentiful patch.
My feature on taglines: how to write them and why you need them, is now online at http://www.wow-womenonwriting.com. I also have a story, retitled 'Ready, Steady, Chop!' in the July issue of Take a Break's Fiction Feast. There's news of two other publications I can look forward to. 'The Enchantress's Pets; has been accepted for Horrified Pres...

A Tempting Assortment

I treated myself yesterday. I showed no self-restraint at all. I binged on mini-stories in the Binnacle 12th Annual Ultra-short Edition 2015. It was highly commended in a competition and the organisers asked me in 2011 if they could print it in a winners' anthology in the near future. Of course, I jumped at the chance and sent the bio they asked for straight away. After around a year I contacted them to find out what was happening, and was assured that the anthology had been delayed in order to include the 2012 winners, but that it would be p...

Short and Sweet

Posted by K. S. Dearsley on Sunday, June 9, 2013,
If you're looking for something that you can read in one 'sitting' I have two suggestions for short story lovers. The first is Plasma Frequency Magazine. It wants readers to vote for their favourite stories to help them choose which ones to put in their first annual anthology. You can find all the past issues at http://www.plasmafrequencymagazine.com. The second suggestion is my anthology Artists & Liars, which is now available at http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/322872. It includes short...

About Me

My writing career began as a freelance feature writer for the local press, businesses and organisations. Now a prize-winning playwright and short story writer, my work has appeared in numerous publications on both sides of the Atlantic. I write as K. S. Dearsley because it saves having to keep repeating my forename, and specialise in fantasy and other speculative genres.
